Beginning art is an elective course. It consists of two semesters of basic preparation and introduction to the following areas of art: (1) Drawing--line, shading, still life, perspective; (2) Color Theory--color chart, value, complementary colors; (3) Painting--watercolor and tempera; (4) Pastels--still life, abstract still life, and wildlife; (6) Graphic Design--elements of design, "Design an Ad", and poster design; (7) Lettering--Gothic, Roman, Serifs, and Decorative; and (8) Crafts- glass etching and ceramics. Art History (Prehistoric- Renaissance) is covered during both semesters. Some computer elements are included in Graphic Design, Lettering, and Crafts.   Advanced Art II is an elective course. It is a concentrated study of all areas covered in Basic Art. Added to the year will be printmaking, computer graphics and colored pencil. Advanced work will be done in: (1) Drawing--line, shading, still life, perspective, and portrait; (2) Color Theory--value and color harmonics; (3) Painting--watercolor and tempera; (4) Pastels--still life, abstract still life, and landscape; (5) Pen and Ink (Crowquill)- wildlife, vegetation and still life; (6) Graphic Design--"Design an Ad" and poster design; (7) Computer Graphics--design, lettering and color usage; (8) Lettering--poster and banner; (9) Crafts--glass etching, copper and nature; (10) Ceramics--poured and hand built; (11) Printmaking--block; (12) Colored Pencil- shading and still life; and (13) Art History- surrealism.   Advanced Art III and IV are electives courses. These courses allow students to concentrate on their chosen area of art in an independent manner. Advanced work can be done in the following areas: (1) Drawing--figure, still life, perspective, wildlife, and landscape; (2) Color Theory--value and color harmonies; (3) Painting--watercolor and tempra; (4) Pastels- still life, abstract still life, landscape, and portrait; (5) Pen and Ink--wildlife, vegetation, still life, portrait, and scratch board; (6) Graphic Design--"Design an AD" and poster design; (7) Computer Graphics--design, lettering, and color usage; (8) Lettering--poster and banner; (9) Crafts--glass etching, copper and nature; (10) Ceramics--poured and hand built; (11) Sculpture--3-D materials and metal; (12) Printmaking--block and etching; (13) Colored Pencil--still life, landscape, and portrait; and (14) Art History--internet research. Use of Adobe Photoshop and other computer programs will be emphasized. Junior students are responsible for Prom decorations. Senior students are responsible for Homecoming Dance decrations. All sudents help with the play posters and set design. A portfolio for senior art students will be prespared for those interested in college applications.
