C English 1: This year-long class will cover many aspects of the English Language Arts, including vocabulary, grammar, writing, research, and literature. This college-preparation curriculum develops the following skills: determining the meaning of vocabulary words in the context of literature; identifying the subject and verb of a sentence; writing an effective thesis statement or topic sentence; using resources available in the library and on the web to perfom effective research; identifying the elements of fiction and poetry; and identifying basic literary devices.
B English 1: This year-long class will cover many aspects of the English Language Arts, including vocabulary, grammar, writing, research, and literature. This curriculum develops the following important communication and workplace skills: determining the meaning of vocabulary words in the context of literature; identifying main idea and details in reading and writing; identifying the parts of speech; identifying the subject and verb of a sentence; writing an effective thesis statement or topic sentence; using resources available in the library and on the web to perform effective research; identifying the elements of fiction and poetry; and identifying basic literary devices.
