| College English Course Description: This year-long class will cover many aspects of the English Language Arts, including vocabulary, grammar, writing, research, and literature. This college-preparation curriculum develops the following skills: learning new vocabulary words using etymology and context clues; identifying main idea and details in reading, writing and note taking; identifying the subject and verb of a sentence; writing effective sentences by avoiding fragment and run on errors; using commas correctly; writing an effective thesis statement or topic sentence; using resources available in the library and on the web to perform effective research; and using the Keys to Reading Comprehension to improve comprehension skills. Students will practice the ACT test format on grammar and reading tests throughout the year.
