| College English Course Description: This year-long class will cover many aspects of the English Language Arts, including vocabulary, grammar, writing, research, and literature. This college-preparation curriculum develops the following skills: learning new vocabulary words using etymology and context clues; identifying main idea and details in reading, writing, and note taking; writing effective sentences by incorporating stylistic elements such as appositive participle, and absolute phrases; organizing effective paragraphs; using resources available in the library and on the web to perform and cite effective research; and surveying the canon of American literature with a focus on characteristics of literature from certain time periods. Students will practice the ACT test format on grammar and reading tests throughout the year.
