Grade Level: 9, 10, 11, 12 Credit: 2 credits Term(s): full year French I is an elective course. It is designed to present material in such a way that the student will derive pleasure and satisfaction in acquiring the language skills. The course also enables the students to: (1) comprehend the language spoken at conversational speed on subjects within their vocabulary range; (2) read material involving vocabulary and construction studied; (3) write in idiomatic style (everyday expression about ordinary daily activities) on subjects studied; (4) become acquainted with the cultural background of the countries where French is spoken. It is highly recommended for a student entering French I to first have a well-developed skill in English grammar and to have good study habits. At least two years of one language should be taken in order to acquire proficiency. It is recommended that a college bound student complete four years of the same foreign language. |

It is designed to present material in such a way that the student will derive pleasure and satisfaction in acquiring the language skills. The course also enables the student to: (1) comprehend the language spoken at conversational speed on subjects within their vocabulary range; (2) read material involving vocabulary and construction studied; (3) write in idiomatic style (everyday expressions about ordinary daily activities) on subjects studied; (4) become acquainted with the cultural background of the countries where French is spoken. |
Grade Level: 11, 12 Credits: 2 credits per course Term(s): full year French II & IV are elective courses. This is a combined, upper-level course which is designed to (1) continue development of conversational ability; (2) continue to increase the vocabulary span; (3) improve reading ability; (4) develop ability in written composition on the subjects studied; (5) increase knowledge of the culture, the literature, and the art of the countries studied through reading on these subjects in French. |
