World History is an elective course that will
meet the semester social studies requirement for graduation. It may
be taken as a semester course or a full year course. The flexibility
of the course is designed to allow students to take the course at
any time during the high school career. It is a study of world
history, which includes geography, historical events and various
cultural aspects of living in a world community both today and in
the past. The objective of the course is to increase the students'
knowledge and understanding of the world around them.

World Cultures is an elective course that will meet the semester social studies requirement for graduation. Throughout the course the semester students will research and study different cultures that exist around the world. Students will examine different aspects of cultures within the United States, Middle East, Africa, Europe, South America, and East Asia. This includes the study of region, customs, politics, economics, conflict, and sociology. Students will view and study how cultural traits and geography contribute to conflict and affect interaction between countries throughout the globe. The course looks at other cultures and stresses an awareness and acceptance of man's cultural backgrounds, interaction between man and his physical world, and how each affects the other. |
